Winter is typically a time to slow down—a season to pause, reflect, and turn inward. But for many of us, the long, dark days can also bring a sense of heaviness.

This past season, we set out to reframe that feeling. Instead of simply getting through winter, we asked: what would it look like to truly winter well?

Here in our Doylestown, PA shop, we saw an opportunity to create something more—an experience that could energize not just ourselves, but our broader community. As we began dreaming, one idea kept resurfacing: creating meaningful, in-person gatherings for women looking for things to do in Doylestown during the quieter winter months.

And so, Wintering Well was born—a three-part speaker series designed to foster connection, spark curiosity, and offer practical inspiration for everyday life.

Nourishing from Within: A Wellness-Focused Evening

We kicked off the series with Caitlin McCandless, a nutrition expert and member of our SCJ team.

Caitlin guided us through the powerful role blood sugar plays in our energy, mood, hormones, and overall well-being—especially for busy women balancing full lives. She paired science-backed insights with approachable, real-life strategies, offering simple food swaps and habits that felt both manageable and impactful.

It was the kind of conversation that stays with you—practical, empowering, and deeply relevant to everyday life.

Designing Spaces We Love: Interior Inspiration Close to Home

Our second evening welcomed Corinna Blair, a local interior designer here in Doylestown (and the creative mind behind our shop’s interior).

Corinna introduced us to the evolving world of wallpaper—sharing insights on trends, applications, and even a bit of history. What once felt intimidating suddenly felt approachable, even exciting. Guests left inspired to bring new life into their own homes, with fresh perspective and confidence to try something new.

For many, it was a reminder that creativity doesn’t have to be complicated—it just needs a place to begin.

Bringing Beauty Outdoors: A Bucks County Garden Perspective

We closed the series with Jackie Chapman, known locally as the “Garden Girl,” a Bucks County garden designer whose seasonal planters bring beauty to our storefront each year.

Jackie shared her expertise on container gardening, from selecting the right plants and flowers to designing arrangements that thrive throughout the seasons. The conversation quickly turned interactive, with questions ranging from deer-resistant planting to keeping containers alive through summer heat.

It was equal parts practical and joyful—rooted in the idea that creating something beautiful outdoors can be both accessible and deeply rewarding.

Wintering Well, Together

Each evening offered something unique, but together, they created a shared experience—one centered on learning, growth, and connection.

In a season that can often feel quiet or isolating, Wintering Well became a reminder of what’s possible when we gather: new ideas, fresh energy, and a renewed sense of community.

For those looking for things to do in Bucks County during the winter months, we hope this series offered not just something to attend—but something to take with you.

We’re already looking ahead to next winter, dreaming up new topics and conversations.

Is there something you’d love to learn or experience with us? We’d love to hear.
